Great Reads for Girls 2022 – 2023

September – 15th Special Event

Kick-off to another great year of the mother daughter book club! Come for a great night making a fun craft and having a yummy treat! We will be discussing the fun books we will be reading the rest of the year!

October – 20th Black Star Bright Dawn by Scott O’Dell

It is the story of an Eskimo girl whose family moves from the coast inland after her father, Bartok is stranded on an ice floe while seal hunting. While he survives physically, he leaves his profession & agrees to train for the Iditarod (a grueling dogsled race from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska).

November – 10th Beef Princess of Practical County by Michelle Houts

After years of waiting, it is finally Libby Ryan’s turn to shine at the Practical County Fair. Libby is filled with excitement as she and her granddad pick out two calves for her to raise on her family’s cattle farm, in hopes of winning the annual steer competition.

January – 19th Each Little Bird That Sings by Deborah Wiles

Comfort is just a normal girl except for the fact that she lives in a funeral home and sees dead people almost every day. But it’s all right with her because as you can already tell, she’s happy with her life and couldn’t be feeling any better. But soon her Uncle Edisto dies and so does Aunt Florentine.

February – 9th Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink

Set in the 1860s, the novel is about a lively eleven-year-old tomboy named Caroline Augusta Woodlawn, nicknamed “Caddie”, living in the area of Dunnville, Wisconsin. As a young girl, she made the journey from Boston to Dunnville with her family, one that nearly cost her life.

March – 16th The Sister’s Grimm The Fairy Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley

When orphaned sisters Sabrina and Daphne are sent to live with their mysterious grandmother, Relda Grimm, who lives in a strange town in New York state, known for its extraordinary number of unexplained and unusual crimes, they begin to unravel a mystery that leads to their ancestors’ magical beginnings.

April – 20th Rapunzel’s Revenge by Shannon Hale

Rapunzel’s cohort, Jack, as in Calamity, unwittingly helps her find courage and strength throughout their adventures, all while toting around a goose the just won’t lay a seemingly innocuous egg. Jack, in turn, is given a purpose to abandon his vigilante life, as he helps Rapunzel seek revenge and justice.
